I felt the need to write about this for some reason, I really have no idea why. But I have determined that the apathetic nature of my generation and previous generations has left us all in a state of mass ignorance. A friend confessed to me the other day that a girl our age did not know who Dick Cheney is…. Cue for you on the Right to gasp and say “How can someone already through Middle School be so daft!†and those on the Left too gasp and say “How can someone not know that evil man who is running us into the ground and pulling Bush’s strings!†However for me, this only enforced my notion that people are really stupid. There is no way around it! They are really stupid! If you live in the United States of America and have no idea who the Vice President is, then I hope you don’t vote. Ill informed voters like that scare me, because if you can’t even find out who Dick Cheney is, how are you going to actually vote for candidates based off past actions rather than simply push a button according to party lines?
I digress, perhaps I will comment on this tomorrow after I vote. My point for bringing all of this up, however, is that people really do not know what is going on. I asked a random person sitting next to me now, what kind of government Iran had… “Communism?â€, see what I mean? Iran actually has a democratic government… Did you know that? If you did you would also know that the democratic portion of the government is overruled by a Guardian Council of Religious Zealots who run the country according to their radical ideals. Make no doubt about it, these people are radical Islamists. These people account for a small fraction of Muslims, and are the same people who are to be blamed for 9/11.
There are those who will disagree with me, I’m sure. They are mostly Liberal, so let me throw them for a loop. These Radical Zealots who are controlling Middle Eastern countries and causing all of these problems, same exact thing as radical right wing Christians. The difference in an Abortion Clinic being blown up and a Suicide Bombing in the Middle East, well the difference is we don’t understand what is going on due to our apathetic nature. Blame Schools. Blame Media. Blame Anything. But it is true. Granted radical Islam is a bit more spread out than radical Zealots here, there is a reason for that.
I’d like to preface and say that I have read the Koran, and unless you’ve actually read it your thoughts on my next comment mean jack squat. The Koran is a more violent text than the Bible Christians read. You cannot read it and deny it, you can’t even read the Wikipedia page on Muhammad and deny it. I’m not saying it’s wrong, I’m not saying Christanity is right- but the simple fact is one is more violent than the other. That’s my explanation as to why Islamic extremists are so numerous, they have more scriptural reasoning. Christians don’t have a clean slate either… Crusades anyone? Yeah…
The point of this entire blog, is to point out that the Middle East is being controlled by a select few who belong to a certain branch of Islam. Using Iran as a reference once again, the people there actually want democracy and voted to give their PRESIDENT, whom they ELECT, more power. The Guardian Council, composed of religious leaders, pretty much said no. Liberalized Media disputes what I have just said about Iranians wanting democracy…. But look at how the country votes… The media says they want an ‘Islamic State’, they have one already.
Summary- The media doesn’t know jack. What is worse than apathetic people in this country, who are ignorant to the world, is the way they follow the media’s spoon fed crap. FoxNews is even guilty of this. People need to be better informed, but they lack the care to go out and get informed. Sickening. I see people get up on TV everyday and cry about the war, complain about the war, and say we need to back out of the war. Are these people right? No. Do I think we should continue the war as we are now? No. People do not understand what we are dealing with, in no way do they understand. There is a just cause somewhere in this ‘War on Terror’, but I think it may have been lost when John Kerry voted for it before he voted against it. People there want freedom just as much as we once did, and at the same time they are just as ignorant as we are. They’re lucky to get any kind of news that’s not a spin job. We have the same problem, except you can find some bit of truth is what we are often times told and we have access to international news. They don’t. That’s a big problem, especially if you are fighting this ignorance at the same time your fighting insurgents.
A tangled web this is… very tangled…
